She's home

The surgery went well. The doctor had figured that by Katie's age her adenoids would be gone, but what she found was large, 'gunky' adenoids, so those came out too.  Normally by the teen years they have shrunk to nothing, but I guess if they have suffered chronic infections then they can still be a problem.

She is in a lot of pain and has an upset stomach (so far no vomiting) and she keeps pleading with me to give her some medicine to make it feel better. She's already had codeine and morphine. What else can I give her? Oxycontin??? A shot of Jim Beam??? I hate it when I can't do anything to take the pain away. Bad Mom!!! Sometimes a kiss just doesn't fix things.

It's going to be a long night......

My adenoids weren't gone either - they had to come out.

Can your doctor give her Percaset (I never spell it correctly)? It comes in a liquid form, and it really worked well for me - I took it every 4 hours. Pain management is so important.

I'm glad surgery went ok - and she's going to feel yucky for a couple of days. I promise that it does get better - and if she is anything like me - she will feel amazing when she is back on her feet. I have so much more energy now that I don't have that nasty infection in my body anymore!

Our poor Katie. I feel for her and for you. It is so hard to see our babies hurt and not be able to fix it. I am glad that she came through it well. I remember how hard it was for you when you got your tonsils out - ouch! I am praying for a speedy recovery!

Poor Katie. I also had a lot of nausea after I got my tonsils out. I hope she can get through it without vomitting. That is no fun when you've just had your tonsils out!

One thing my Mom did that helped was to take Campbells Vegetarian Vegetable Soup and put it in the blender so I could just drink it. It sounds gross, but it was actually good and the salt made me feel better.

When my daughter had her tonsils out we did tylenol and then switched to codine 4 hours later, and then tylenol again 4 hours after that. The doc told us that when a kid is in that much pain, it helps to switch so the body doesn't get used to one pain reliever. I hope she feels better soon!
