News

I met with the doctors and here is what I learned. PBJ has a skull fracture across the back of her head. It probably occurred last Thursday or so, and then swelling caused her to begin having seizures. When they took her to the doctor on Friday, she was very ill. They began giving her meds to reduce the swelling and stop the seizures and she improved. They sent her home Sunday but she seized again so she went right back into the hospital. She has Grade 1 hydrocephaly, probably caused by the trauma. She has extreme weakness in her lower limbs and seems very uncomfortable if you move her legs or hips around much. I asked them to x-ray her back and hips in case there is another break that is causing this. Tonight a pediatric neurologist is seeing her and running more tests. Then tomorrow they plan on releasing her to me. I am going to take all of the doctor reports to the US Embassy and plead for an emergency medical visa. It's a long shot, but her best chance at minimizing the long term damages from this trauma.
She smiled at me. Couldn't take her eyes off of me and acted like she wanted me to hold her. I couldn't because she is literally tied to the bed to keep her IV lines in. But she looked much better than I was expecting. The prayers are working!!!!

It's fantastic news that she is smiling and interacting with you! That speaks volumes to the potential impact of the injury. It must just be killing you not to be able to pick her up and hold her. You're right - the prayers are working! We know from our own experience that God DOES work miracles, and I am so happy to see them happening for you. We will keep on praying, and we cannot WAIT to meet her.

And good call on the lower extremities. It could be she's just uncomfortable, but it also could be a direct result of whatever caused her fracture. They need to be checking for other (even older) fractures.

I'm so glad she's with you.

Thanks for the update. I pray the embassy has compassion on little PBJ and allows her to come to the US for medical care.

Better news than originally expected. That is great. It is also wonderful that you are there with her. I will continue to pray ceaselessly for her recovery, your strength and the compassion of the embassy to grant her an emergency visa.

Focusing on positive thoughts and prayers for you! I hope someone in the embassy has compassion & understands how absolutely critical it is for her to be in the States ASAP.

I'll be away in England for the next 6 days. Please know you have people praying for you over there as well.

Blessings & Peace....

I'm sending up many prayers for PBJ and you right now. I am praying the embassy will give you an expedited visa to get that baby to the US ASAP.

Did they have any explanations of how this child got a skull fracture? My eyes are filled with tears as I think of your sweet baby. I think it is a very positive sign that she is so responsive to you.

Wendy,
While the news was the best possible news (complete healing), it was a welcome sight to see. I continue to pray for peri's healing, the doctors' wisdom and for you. I am praying a hedge of protection around you so that you can focus on what really matters and not be distracted by little frustrations. I am rejoicing that Peri is looking to you. I pray for the embassy to grant the visa and that you are able to bring her home for healing.

Love and hugs to you-
Deb

Even though the "good agency" isn't named on the blog, I advise keeping comments neutral. We need to keep "good agency" motivated to advocate for Wendy and PBJ and not make "good agency" employees defensive. Plenty of time to discuss what led to PBJ's injuries later. The important thing is to encourage "good agency" to get this child to a US hospital ASAP!

Hi Wendy,

Praying for you, your family and Peri Brynn. If you haven't already, maybe call your senator to have the medical visa pushed along. Also, I'm thinking maybe an air ambulance home would be a good idea - just incase. I'll check on some programs, here is one I found so far: http://www.nwa.com/corpinfo/aircares/feature/
